Dr. Al-Malack received his Ph. D. degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (England) in 1993 in the field of Environmental Engineering. During the Ph. D. program, he gained experience in the field of the application of membrane technologies in water and wastewater treatment. Presently, Dr. Al-Malack is working as an Adjunct Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He received his B.Sc. degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in the field of Applied Civil Engineering in 1981. During the B.Sc. program, and as part of the program, he spent 28 weeks training with Metcalf and Eddy, Inc. (Boston, U.S.A.). The training program involved the use of septic tanks as a wastewater treatment alternative for rural and small communities. His M.Sc. degree was in the field of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering and was obtained from KFUPM. During his M. Sc. program, he investigated the drinking water quality in the city of Dammam. The study emphasized on the effects of of sodium and fluoride elements in drinking water on human health as well as the corrosion tendencies of galvanized iron and PVC pipes exposed to that water. Dr. Al-Malack joined the Research Institute of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (RI-KFUPM) between 1987 and 2007, during which he was exposed to different research projects and collaborated with other scientists and engineers in various areas of environmental contamination (water, air, soil and fish). During his service at the RI-KFUPM, he managed and participated in various projects related to different environmental issues. Dr. Al-Malack has published more than 50 technical papers in refereed international journals, more than 15 papers in national, regional and international conferences and 3 book chapters. Besides reviewing technical papers and reports for national and international conferences and institutions, he has been conducting refereeing activities for national and international journals such as the Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, the Water Research, the Journal of Membrane Science, and the Journal of Water, Air, and Soil Pollution.
