Parthasarathy Sonaimuthu, Research Post-doc Fellow, Center for Genetic Medicine Research, Washington, USA

Dr. Parthasarathy Sonaimuthu is a Postdoctoral fellow at Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC, USA. He has completed is PhD in Parasitology from the Department of Parasitology, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He has worked on developing recombinant protein/DNA vaccine using Rhoptry proteins of Toxoplasma gondii. He has also worked on developing a robust, economical and time-effective diagnostic assay for parasitic infections such as toxoplasmosis and malaria. During this period, he was also able to teach molecular biology and guide students with their research projects based on parasitology. Apart from T. gondii and P. falciparum he has carried out epidemiological study for parasites such as Echinococcosis, Schistosomiasis and sparganosis. Dr. Parthasarathy was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship at Indian Institute of Science, by the Department of Biotechnology, Gov. of India. He has completed his graduation in Bachelor of Science in 2003 and Master of Science in 2005 from Madurai Kamaraj University, India.

Research Interest

Dr. Parthasarathy’s research interest focuses on understanding host-parasite interactions, vaccine development for parasitic infections and making use of the latest molecular techniques for better understanding of the parasite behavior.  He is also interested in epidemiology study of different infections and its impact on emerging drug resistance in parasites for different infections.
