Dr. Rikhav Gala is a Research Scientist – I in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Health Science Center (HSC), Albuquerque, NM. He has worked on the formulation and mechanistic characterizations of vaccines. He worked on ovarian cancer immunotherapy which was NIH funded and let to the formation of start-up for the commercialization and clinical of the therapeutic vaccine against ovarian cancer. His area of interest are formulations of dosage forms for small and large molecules. He has focused on drug delivery via buccal route using oral dissolving films and transdermal route using microneedles patch. He has served as a guest editor for a special themed issue in the International Journal of Pharmaceutics. Dr. Gala has authored several research articles, book chapters and has presented his research findings at international universities and conferences. Rikhav has a PhD and an MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Research Interest

  • Formulation and characterization of oral dissolving films (ODF) using conventional film casting method and novel methods using 2D and 3D printing.
  • Development of adjuvanated vaccines for oral and transdermal delivery against cancers and infectious diseases.
  • Adjuvant screening and selection to enhance the current available vaccines. In-vitro mechanistic screening of 8 adjuvants for the different vaccine models.
