Biography

I have a strong and broad background in molecular microbiology and over 9 years research experience in study the pathogenesis of pathogenic bacteria. Upon earning my PhD, I came to America to join the University of Pittsburgh as a Postdoctoral Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Anil Ojha. I conducted a study on biofilm formation and the mechanism of drug tolerance in mycobacteria. In January 2015 I followed Dr. Ojha to the Wadsworth Center in Albany, New York, under the New York State Department of Health, to lead a project on alternative ribosomes and drug tolerance in mycobacteria. This project is supported by RO1 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. I have displayed outstanding leadership in my research projects. I have developed my own teaching style and strategy to encourage students and volunteers to continuously improve their experimental skills and problem-solving abilities. I have supervised multiple undergraduate researchers and trained them with research skills. With my inspiring leadership and communicating with our collaborator in the ribosome project, I have opened the gate for many future discoveries from Dr. Ojha lab. The current application is based on my prior work published on the PNAS about the ribosome hibernation and drug tolerance in mycobacteria.
