Marynes Montiel
University of Zulia

I has been a Professor at the University of Zulia for 26 years. Biologists with a Master degree in Microbiology and PhD in Environmental Sciences. Working in environmental microbiology for 30 years, I acquired an experience in water-related and food borne diseases microorganisms. At aquaculture processes, I have been studying microorganisms in aquaculture ponds. I am interested in the prevention and control of water- and food-borne diseases and studying the relation between indicator levels, pathogens and disease development in the population. These research activities connect with and help the community through extension activities, by lowering the water disease rates, including the education and conscientization with respect to this problem in communities (especially the most needy).

Research Interest

Water- and food-related pathogens; Indicator microorganisms for the control of disease transmission; Microbial water and food fecal contamination (including bacteria, viruses; Parasites and fungi) and its relation to physicochemical parameters in order to control their transmission and prevent water- and food-borne diseases, Using both classic and new technological equipment; Prevention and control of water- and food-borne diseases and the relation between indicator levels; Pathogens and disease development in the population.
