Biography

Prof. Mingcong Deng received his BS and MS from Northeastern University, China, Ph.D. in Systems Science from Kumamoto University, Japan, in 1997. From 1997 to 2010 he was with Kumamoto University, University of Exeter (UK), NTT Communication Science Laboratories (Japan) and Okayama University (Japan). Now he is a professor of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan. Prof. Deng is a member of SICE, ISCIE, IEICE, JSME, IEEJ and the IEEE(SM). He specializes in three complementary areas: Operator based nonlinear fault detection and fault tolerant control system design; System design on thermoelectric conversion elements; Applications on smart material actuators. Prof. Deng has over 300 publications including 120 journal papers, 9 books (or chapters), in peer reviewed journals including IEEE Transactions, IEEE Press (for books) and other top tier outlets. He serves as a chief editor for International Journal of Advanced Mechatronic Systems and associate editors of 6 international journals, including with IEEE Trans. on Automation Science and Engineering. Prof. Deng is also a co-chair of agricultural robotics and automation technical committee, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.

Research Interest

Biography

Professor Nader Barsoum is currently the President of the Asia Pacific Society for Solar and Hybrid Technologies (APSSAHT), Editor In Chief of the Global Journal of Technology and Optimization, and a general chairman of annual global conference of power, control and optimization. He has lectured at many universities including, University Malaysia Sabah, Curtin University, University of Western Sydney, University Science Malaysia, University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Alexandria University. He obtained his PhD from the University of Newcastle in 1989 on Electric Machines and Drives. He has three degrees from Alexandria University in Power Engineering (1976), Applied Mathematics (1979) and Engineering Mathematics (1983). Professor Barsoum obtained the School Research and Developments Excellence Award in 2010, Highest Research Performance Incentive Award in 2010, Best Researcher Award in 2009, ANAK Sarawak Award in 2009 and University Encouragement Award in 1992. He has completed several funded projects such as: Implementation of an optimal energy saving system with solar tracker in 2010, Low cost hydrogen fuel cell for hybrid renewable energy system in 2006, and development of small module for speed drive control in 2009. Besides supervising many Master and PhD degrees, he has also been selected several times as an external examiner, and published over 90 papers in both international indexed journals and conferences. Professor Barsoum is a member of institute of solar energy society, Editorial board of Innovation in Power, Control, and Optimization: Emerging Energy Technologies, IGI book chapter 2011, Editor of proceeding of American institute of Physics special issue since 2008, and Guest Editor of Elsevier International Journal of Computers & Mathematics with Applications for 2010 and 2012.

Research Interest

Research areas: Electric machine control and stability, power electronics and speed drive systems. Applications: High quality DC power converters, solar tracking systems.

Biography

Dr. Shaaban Abdallah, a professor of Aerospace Engineering, has been at the university of Cincinnati since 1989. He obtained his Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering at the university of Cincinnati in 1980. Dr. Abdallah joined Penn State University from 1981 to 1988. His research interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics, Turbo-machines, Morphing Aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. He teaches Air breathing propulsion Systems, Rocket Propulsion, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Mechanics.

Adil K. Al-Tamimi is currently professor of civil engineering & director of IMS college of engineering, American University of Sharjah, UAE.He has completed his BSc(Civil Engineering) in University of Technology at Baghdad in Iraq in the year 1977.He has completed his MSc(Structural Engineering) in University of Strathclyde at Glasgow in UK in the year 1986 and his PhD from the same university on civil engineering in the year 1990.He worked as a lecturer of civil Engineering in the Technical institute of Basra in Iraq from 1977-1982.He worked as a Site Engineer in the National Oil Company in Iraq from 1982-1985.He worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Strathclyde, UK from 1985-1990.He worked as a Researcher in the Department of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering, University of Paisley, UK from 1991-1995.He worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering, University of Paisley, UK from 1995-1997.He worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering,University of Paisley – Scotland, United Kingdom from 1997-2000.
