     Influenza is a viral infection that attacks your respiratory system — your nose, throat and lungs. Influenza, commonly called the flu.

    Nothing more than bed rest and plenty of fluids to treat the flu. But in some cases, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication, such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza). If taken soon after you notice symptoms, these drugs may shorten your illness by a day or so and help prevent serious complications.

However, infectious disease prevention and control are still very important since outbreaks can happen at anytime and new infectious agents emerge from time to time. In Hong Kong, there are currently a total of 48 notifiable infectious diseases. In 2013, the top three most commonly reported infectious diseases were Chickenpox, Tuberculosis and Scarlet fever.
