    Pathophysiology
Paranasal sinus and nasal cavity cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity. Different types of cells in the paranasal sinus and nasal cavity may become malignant. Being exposed to certain chemicals or dust in the workplace can increase the risk of paranasal sinus and nasal cavity cancer. Signs of paranasal sinus and nasal cavity cancer include sinus problems and nosebleeds.

    Statistics
Of all the people diagnosed with nasal cavity and paranasal sinus cancer, between 35 and 60 out of every 100 (35 to 60%) will survive for 5 years or more after they are diagnosed. But this is an overall statistic, and the outlook for each person will depend very much on where the cancer is, the type, how far it has spread, and how fast it is growing. Generally, cancer of the nasal cavity has a better outcome than paranasal sinus cancer.

    Treatment
Treatment will depend on the position, stage and grade of the cancer, and on your general health. Usually a team of specialist doctors will plan your treatment. They aim to treat the cancer while doing as little damage as possible to your nose, mouth and appearance. The main treatment for nasal or sinus cancer is usually surgery.Treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy may be given before surgery to shrink a large tumour.
