"Food poisoning" is a general name given to illnesses featured by consuming contaminated food or water that has gone bad or is contaminated. There are two kinds of food poisoning: infectious agent, toxic agent. Food intoxication also known as food poisoning in which food contains toxins.
Food poisoning may be caused due to the micro-organisms like pathogenic bacteria, viruses, prions or parasites commonly called "germs: or "bugs". Illness can also be caused by chemical contaminants (such as heavy metals), toxins produced by the micro-organisms .
Symptoms and Treatment
Food poisoning may be symptom-free or may have symptoms ranging from mild intestinal discomfort to severe dehydration and bloody diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, fever, abdominal cramping, dehydration, rectal bleeding, and bloating. It can be treated by drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration ,to replace the fluids lost through vomiting and diarrhoea. Take rest as much as possible, eat when you feel up to it.
Overall in Israel bacterial pathogens account for 60% of hospitalizations attributable to foodborne transmission, parasites for 5%, and viruses for 34%.Overall, foodborne transmission accounts for 13.8 million of the 38.6 million illnesses . Excluding illness caused by Listeria, Toxoplasma, and hepatitis A virus (three pathogens that typically cause nongastrointestinal illness).
