Panic disorder is where you have recurring and regular panic attacks, often for no apparent reason. A panic attack occurs when your body experiences a rush of intense psychological (mental) and physical symptoms. In Italy number of new cases of Panic attacks and Panic disorder diagnosed in 2015 is 1,690 (1,970 males; 1,720 females). In 2015, it is estimated that the risk of an individual dying from Panic attacks and Panic disorder by their 80th birthday will be 1 in 70 (1 in 66 for males and 1 in 81 for females). Psychological therapy and medication are the two main types of treatment for panic disorder.
A panic attack may be a one-time occurrence, but many people experience repeat episodes. Recurrent panic attacks are often triggered by a specific situation, such as crossing a bridge or speaking in public?especially if that situation has caused a panic attack before. Usually, the panic-inducing situation is one in which you feel endangered and unable to escape.
