    Balantidium coli is an intestinal protozoan parasite that causes the infection called balantidiasis. Balantidium Infection Causes & Symptoms: Balantidiasis spreads through ingestion of infective cysts of B. coli, present in contaminated water or food. Most people infected with Balantidium coli experience no symptoms.

  • Balantidium Infection

    Treatment: Most cases of Balantidium coli infection are asymptomatic. If possible, asymptomatic individuals should still be treated in order to halt further transmission of the disease. Many people clear the infection spontaneously without treatment. Infected individuals usually respond well to treatment using one of the aforementioned regimens.

  • Balantidium Infection

    Statistics: A total of 889 stool samples were collected at during the period from January to August 2011, from children aged 1–12 years. Of them, 380 (42.3%) were females, and 509 were males (57.7%), The spatial prevalence of samples by gender throughout the study period. the highest rate of positive cases was recorded in February (5.71%), while the lowest cases were recorded in July (less than 1% of total cases).
