Pathophysiology
Vesicoureteral reflux is a condition in which the flow of urine retrogrades from bladder into ureter. The valve is formed by tunneling of ureter through the wall of bladder. It is usually diagnosed in infants and children. The risk of urinary tract infections is increased by this disorder. This is usually identified by ultrasonography.
Statistics
About 30% of children with urinary tract infections will be diagnosed with Vesicoureteral reflux after a voiding cystourethrogram. There are numerous case series of children with UTI who underwent VCUG, and consistently 25% to 40% of these children have Vesicoureteral reflux .
Treatment
The important aspect in treatment of vesicoureteral reflux includes, minimizing of infections. Infections are minimized primarily by prophalactic antibiotics in newborn. Usually treatment includes endoscopic injection, Medical treatment, and surgical management.
