Dear Fellow IJoAT Members,

“The entire object of true education, is to make people not merely do the right thing, but to enjoy right things; not merely industrious, but to love industry; not merely learned, but to love knowledge.” John Ruskin

One of the areas in education which has witnessed explosive growth in the last decade is the technical education. Amongst the different arenas to which technical education has been moving towards, the most important and noteworthy direction is its interaction with industry. Technology advances are really meaningful, if we are able to use the same for improving our quality of life. In India, the majority of population is living in villages. They have not benefitted substantially from the rapid technological strides of the past few decades; to the same extent as the urban population. It is imperative that the development of rural sector be undertaken on war footing or else it would lead to unprecedented socioeconomic problems. In this direction, advance technologies, but relevant , can play a major role. Few of the technologies already implemented in urban areas can be replicated in rural areas to improve quality of life of rural population. Relevant Technologies must be developed in institutions with the help of industry. Presently, in India, education and academia are suffering from a seriously damaged image which is preventing the industry from really participating in academia in a big way. Industry is not playing its role in development of technologies in institutes. Onus lies to institutes to build a rapport with industries in and around the place of their establishments.

I congratulate all researchers and authors for their contributions towards the current issue.

Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous new year 2013.
