Distinct Hormone Regulation of Determinate and Indeterminate Nodule Development in Legumes

Symbiotic legume nodules are classified as determinate or indeterminate depending on the persistence of nodule meristem. This review compares and contrasts the roles of different plant hormones during the development of these two types of nodules. Cytokinins promote the formation of both types of nodules while ethylene and abscisic acid inhibit them. Interestingly auxin, jasmonic acid, gibberellic acid and brassinolides appear to distinctly influence the two types of nodules.
