Abstract

Effect of Oxygen Transfer and Pellet Size for Producing of Glucosamine Using Aspergillus sydowii BCRC 31742 Cultivated in a Fermenter

Wu HS and Lin BC

The production of glucosamine using Aspergillus sydowii BCRC31742 was investigated in a 5-L fermenter with working volume of 3 L. Using calcium carbonate to control pellet sizes of fungal cells changed the oxygen uptake rate of fungi up to 3.02 mg O2/L.min. The concentration of glucosamine hydrochloride and biomass obtained were 4.08 g/L, and 27.5 g/L, respectively for 5 days.
