BP is frequently elevated at presentation and requires treatment when systolic BP is >180 mmHg or the Mean Arterial Pressure is >130 mmHg. Continuous arterial monitoring is helpful when the BP is elevated to this degree. For patients thought to have subarachnoid haemorrhage with an unsecured aneurysm, decrease in systolic blood pressure to <160 mmHg is reasonable so long as Cerebral Perfusion Pressure remains >60 mmHg.
