Folliculitis is a benign skin disorder characterised by inflammation of one or more hair follicles that appears as pinpoint red bumps and sometimes with a small dot of pus at the top on the skin. In folliculitis, many hair follicles in one area of the skin are affected
Folliculitis affects people of all ages, from babies to seniors. The disease is characterised by the numerous smooth little redbumps form around hair follicles, most common on the face, scalp, chest, back, buttocks, and legs with infection and inflammation .
Folliculitis may be caused by bacteria, yeast or another type of fungus. If the follicles are injured, they are more likely to become infected. Follicles may get irrirated because of using a hot tub, whirlpool, or swimming pool that is not properly treated with chlorine, with substances like makeup, cocoa butter, motor oil, tar, and creosote. Iron deficiency anemia is sometimes associated with chronic cases.
Data were reported by clinical laboratories in the USA, France, Germany, Italy and Spain during 2001 which participate in The Surveillance Network (TSN).The odds ratio for developing folliculitis following use of the inflatable was 12 (95% CI 1.05-136.80).
