Kyasanur Forest Disease

  Kyasanur Forest Disease is an infectious disease common in monkeys but also affects humans. This disease is primarily transmitted by KFD virus infected tick known as Haemaphysalis spinigera. The symptoms include chills, fever, and headache, severe muscle pain and vomiting, gastrointestinal symptoms and bleeding.

In Poland, an average of 15–105 cases of KFD occur per year, with a 2.2% case fatality rate. There is no particular treatment for this disease but the supportive therapy which include medication such as antipyretics and analgesics. It can be prevented by personal care such as adequate clothing and use of insect repellants to avoid tick bites and also vaccination.
