    It is a disease of the central nervous system.The symptoms of this disease is myelin (fatty insulating sheathes protecting nerve fibres) becomes damaged and scarred. It affects a person's motor, sensory and even cognitive functions. The causes of Multiple sclerosis are genetic and environmental factors. The impact and symptoms of Multiple sclerosis depends on a person's ability to participate in everyday activities different from person to person.

    Data on 3581 patients were obtained, including 2494 women (69.6%) and 1030 men (28.8%) - sex ratio 2.4 : 1. The mean age was 40.7 ± 11.9 years. Monofocal onset was reported in 80.8% of cases - the most frequently reported location of lesions was supratentorial (36.1%), followed by optic nerves (26.5%) and spinal cord (20.1%). The mean disease duration was 10.2 ± 8.8 years (range 0.04-53 years), and the mean time from the first symptoms to MS diagnosis was 2.6 years.

  • Multiple sclerosis

    Optic neuritis is an inflammation of the optic nerve, which includes the bundle of nerve fibers which transmits visual information from your eye to your brain. Temporary vision and pain are most common symptoms of optic neuritis. Recurrent optic neuritis was found to be 9.3%, it was 7% of all eyes. In Poland it was found that optic neuritis appears in winter and spring (Leszkowska et al 1988).
