Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of a new method for evaluating wear of two NiTi reciprocating files, through a nondestructive method by micro tomography (ZEISS Xradia 510 Versa). RECIPROC® (VDW, Munich, Germany) and WAVEONE® (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) were evaluated in order to compare the surface and nucleus characteristics of instruments before and after each use, simulating the clinical procedure. The instruments were used three times. Resin blocks for endodontic instrumentation (Dentsply Maillefer Instruments SA-CH 1338, Baillaigues, Switzerland) were used in all cases. Before the first use, the instruments were observed at the Micro Tomograph. Immediately after each use were again submitted to micro- CT, through this sequence until the third use. The method allowed a preliminary assessment of the instruments, checking defects in manufacturing and possible changes resulting from the use.
