Abstract:

All India Coordinated Rice Improvement Programme (AICRIP) is the largest research network on a single crop comprising 47 funded and 100 voluntary centres spread across India. The main objective of the AICRIP is to organise and conduct multi disciplinary, multi location evaluation of rice varieties, crop production and protection technologies across diverse ecosystems to increase and stabilise rice production. Managing this variability is a major challenge for further increasing the productivity of intensive rice cropping systems. Every year, a very large number of trials are organised and conducted by breeders, agronomists, pathologists, entomologists, soil scientists and physiologists at AICRIP centres. In view of this, AICRIP Management Information system is developed to receive the real time data from AICRIP centres in uniform formats. Data from different activities like plan - ning trials in each discipline, allotting trials to different locations, seed/material dispatch , seed received confirmation, monthly crop condition with sowing dates, statistical designs for conducting trial, trial information are designed with simple user friendly interfaces using C sharp of Visual Studio. Centralised database is designed using Microsoft Structured Query language (SQL) and maintained at Directorate of Rice Research (DRR), Hyderabad. In addition to this, statistical analysis and reports module is available to analyse multilocational data from different experimental designs and choose best performing technology tested over different locations. As this system has to manage multilocational and multidiscipline data with different roles of users, user privi - leges are designed based on the role of access to the data to specific user. Four levels of users are created such as National Coordi - nator/ Project Director and Administrator, Principal Investigators of AICRIP, Center In charges and Co-operators. AICRIP MIS is successfully hosted in the year 2011 at the URL http://www.aicrip-intranet.in. Within one year twenty percent of 47 th AICRIP workshop data is submitted on line through this site.
