Behavioral exploration of involvement in work atmosphere among farm women

Abstract :

The women are the backbone of agricultural workforce. They do the most tedious and difficult tasks in agriculture, animal husbandry and home. By and large, they have remained in visible works. But worldwide, they are not having their actual recognition. With this back up, this study is an attempt to explore the behavioral expertise of 120 farm women as sample (through a proportionate random sampling procedure) in Khordha district of Odisha, India, to give natural justice and status to them. The selected respondents were interviewed personally for their work efficiency and decision making style, using pretested well-structured interview schedule for their different agricultural activities. By using appropriate statistical techniques, the findings showed that the farm women were dominated in activities like transplanting seedlings (81%), the intercultural operation (75%), performed the drying and cleaning individually (74.16%) than their men counterparts, in cultivation of paddy and the intercultural operations involved in the package practices. The household work also was mostly performed by the women only because of traditional norms and taboos. The high percentage women involvement in preparing the dried food (badi and pampad making) and backyard gardening indicated the entrepreneurial activity of farm women. With regards to their decision making purchase, investment and selling activities of agricultural products, majority of the farmwomen were found not to be empowered in their self-decision making ability in household works, especially in low SES group than the higher educated income group (r=.68). Hence, the study aims at creating awareness and training programme at government and non-government level about the women empowerment among the firm women of the district of Khorda on the basis of said components described above.
