Abstract :

Background: WHO estimates that about 10% of the world population and 3.8% of the Indian population have some form of disability. The prevalence of cerebral palsy among children is 2 per 1000 live births. Cerebral palsy is considered as one among the Bala Vata Vyadhis due to hampering and crippling nature during the course of growth and development of child. Objectives: To compare the efficacy of Prasarini Taila Matra Basti and Tila Taila Matra Basti in the management of Bala Vata Vyadhi . Materials & Methods: Study was carried out in the IPD Department of Kaumarabhritya , SDM College of Ayurveda & Hospital, Hassan. 30 children satisfying diagnostic criteria and age 3-7 years were included & randomly distributed into two groups of 15 patients each. Group A ( Prasarini Taila Matra Basti group) was treated with Prasarini Taila (20 ml/day) after food for 7 days. In Group B ( Tila Taila Matra Basti group), Tila Taila was given as Matra Basti (20 ml/day) after food for 7 days. Six such courses were administered with an interval of 7 days after each course in both the groups. Results: Prasarini Taila Matra Basti improved the ADL by 17.45%, gross motor functions by 29.08%, fine motor functions by 16.13%, mental functions by 16.93%, ability to understand by 27.77%, performance by 14.28% and speech by 17.94%. Conclusion: Prasarini Taila Matra Basti therapy provided significantly far better improvement in almost all the parameters in comparison to Tila Taila Matra Basti group.

Biography :

Arun Raj G. R was born on November 19, 1985 in Kollam District, Kerala. He did his Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery graduation from Kerala University (2004-09). Currently he is pursuing Post graduation in Kaumarabhritya from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences at SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospitak, Hassan, Karnataka. He has published about nine papers in various national and international journals. To add, he has presented 11 papers in different national and international seminars. He achieved the best presenter award at the 2 nd National seminar conducted at Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College, Kerala on ?Tamaka Shvasa?. Currently he is working on the topic, ?A Clinical Study on the Effect of Kumarabharana Rasa in the Management of Tundikeri (Chronic Tonsillitis).? He also holds Jyotishacharya & Jyotishabhushana degree in Astrology.
