Abstract :

Objectives: depth perception is our visual ability to see thing in three dimensions. It is so important that it develops early in life and involve every single detail of our daily life activities it estimate the distance of objects from us and the location of objects in relation to other objects. Do we have to have input from two eyes to perceive in depth, how about monocular individuals, how do they see the world, how do they manage to survive in a 3 dimensional world and be safe. In fact depth perception arises from a variety of depth cues typically classified into binocular that are based on the receipt of sensory information in three dimensions from both eyes and these include stereopsis and eye convergence and monocular cues that can be presented in just two dimensions and observed with just one eye and these include pictorial, l accommodation, motion parallax and angular declination. In this lecture I'll discuss in brief the different types of both monocular and binocular depth cues showing examples of both, illustrating some of the concepts of normal binocular vision, mentioning visual illusions and finally how do we test stereopsis.
