Abstract :

Drug proving is the method of studying the scientific properties of the drug substance. The drug substance is administered orally to different provers of both sexes and all ages and in different geographical areas in homoeopathic drug proving. In modern medicine, the drug substance is injected directly in tissues of the animal say the frog or rat etc and the effects are recorded after microscopic study of changes in tissues are observed. Homoeopathy uses healthy human beings as provers. Therefore the changes that are experienced by the provers are recorded daily by the master prover. The advantage is that these healthy provers can narrate the changes at mental level like nervousness, fear, weepiness, or sleepiness, irritability, etc too along with physical symptoms like headaches, backaches, menstrual cycle changes, etc, as well as signs like redness of eyes, oedema, etc. The double blind method is usually chosen wherein the name and properties of the drug substance remain unknown to the master provers as well as the other provers. The maximum common symptoms of the maximum provers are then taken as the important symptoms of the drug substance and the drug is included in the material medica which is a book containing the signs and symptoms of the various drugs proved on healthy human beings. The sources of drugs vary from plants, animals, animal products, metals, poisons and snake venoms. The drug from these sources is prepared according to homoeopathic pharmacy methods - by succession or trituration, and hence the direct drug substance becomes potentised or in simple words its energy increases and the quantity is reduces to minimum. Just as the atom which has tremendous power though it has minimal size.
