Abstract:

Multiple injection strategies can be used to reduce emissions resulting from diesel engine combustion. Post injection which means injection of small amount of fuel after the main fuel injection, is one of the part of such injection strategies and it is generally used to improve in-cylinder soot oxidation process. This paper presents the effect of post fuel injection timing on incylinder combustion characteristics and emission formation. Three dimensional 72 degree sector grid which represents the 1/5 of full cylinder geometry was created and solved in AVL??s CFD code FIRE numerically. Obtained results evaluated by means of in-cylinder pressure, temperature, heat release rate and resulted emissions.
