Abstract:

There are three changes that are influencing endodontics: 1. Longevity 2. Interdisciplinarity 3. Technology This lecture will critically judge several questions in the decision making for general practitioners as well as specialists in endodontology, implantology and prosthodontists. With the high success rates of implants in the last decades the attitude to endodontic treatment has obviously changed. Studies show incongruent results. Dentists have become more confident in their ability to predict endodontic outcomes and more reluctant to recommend endodontic treatment. Has endodontology got a future: More and more patients want to remain their teeth intact, regardless of the complexity of the case. With the development of safe and more efficient instruments, effective irrigation solutions and protocols including light induced fluids, laser and the help of higher magnification, it is able to push boundaries. Which products or techniques would change my daily endodontic life: Instead of removing infected tissue and biofilms and replacing it with artificial materials, revascularization or gene therapeutic approach could be a paradigm shift in endodontology. Regeneration could help us to switch from technical manipulation to biological healing.
