Abstract :

Hand dermatitis is one of the most common dermatologic diseases occurs in nurses. This study is conducted as definitive to identify prevalence of hand dermatitis and causing problems in 3rd and 4th grade nursing students. Research group is compiled as 3rd grade students who have 10 hours� clinical practice at hospitals and 4th grade students who are interns with 36 hours of clinical practice at hospitals. Data is collected through a questionnaire designed by researchers. 20.9% of those students (47 of 225) have hand dermatitis. Sex difference does not show a significant value in hand dermatitis however the grade of the student (p<0.01), existing allergic complaints (p<0.001), medication use (p<0.001) have significant differences. Student�s states that the most important factors cause hand dermatitis are use of gloves and cleansers. It is identified that majority of students do not take any precaution for protection to hand dermatitis. Hand dermatitis is a serious problem among students and duration of stay in clinic for practice purposes (class), allergenic state, medication use is related to this situation. The suggestions on this problem could be listed as, use of a cleanser with least irritating features, to dry hands right after cleansing and protection of hands and as for treatment of hands, water based moisturizer use and for nurses who have allergic history, use of steroid creams.

Nurcan Ozyaz�±c�±oglu has completed her PhD in Pediatric Nursing in 2005 at the Ataturk University. She has been working as associate professor in Uludag University since 2011.
