Abstract :

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the job motivation of nurses working in a hospital and the influencing factors. Method: The study was conducted in a state hospital in Samsun between May 2014 and February 2015. There were 262 nurses who were not voluntarily, volunteered, or unreported to participate in the study and who did not find any errors in the data collection form. In the collection of the data, the questionnaire containing the descriptive characteristics of the nurses and the motivation evaluation form consisting of expressions for the job motivation were used. This form is based on expert opinion. Descriptive statistics were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: The average age of the nurses participating in the study was 34.8 ± 6.7 and 79.4% were married. 42.2% of nurses work in internal clinics and 53.8% work in shifts. 88.5% of the nurses in the study group are clinical nurses. 61.8% of the nurses stated that they performed independent nursing activities in the clinics and 92.4% of the nurses stated that they accepted the team understanding in the services they gave. (17.9%), working style (17.1%), money (16.4%), communication in the clinical setting (9.2%), independent working (5.0%), and the health of the nurses in the first place (27.1% , family life (1.5%) and the other (1.2%). While 79% of the nurses defined general communication skills as good, 75.6% stated that the in-house training opportunities affected the motivation of business environment. Conclusion: As a result of this research, it has been found that the motivation of nurses is influenced by individual factors as well as institutional factors. For this reason, it may be suggested to increase the institutional activities in order to increase the belonging and motivation of the institution.

Biography :

Ilknur Aydin Avci earned a master’s Degree in Public Health Nursing; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Nursing Diploma from Ataturk University, Erzurum, Turkey. She is a professor in the Division of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences Ondokuz Mayis University, Samsun, Turkey. She has more than 20 years of experience as an educator and clinician in all settings in which care is provided. She has authored over 55 peer-review manuscripts. She is the author of 3 books and book chapters, including infection diseases and nursing and public health nursing. She has attended a lot of conference, especially nursing research, methodology, cancer early detection, project management, international partnership. She is the Reviewer and Editorial Board Member of several national and international journals including European Journal of Nursing, Cancer Nursing, Asian Nursing Research, Samsun Journal of Health Sciences, Progress in Health Sciences. She is an Advisory Board Member at national research commission.
