Abstract :

Meta-analysis has become an important tool in the social and life sciences for the analysis, integration and deeper understanding of empirical findings resulting from several studies. Meanwhile, there exist numerous meta-analyses about depression allowing for a convenient overview about a wide range of research in this field. In this talk, first, the author will give an introduction to meta-analysis using an example for determining the impact of an herbal treatment on depressive disorders. Then he will present the results of meta-analyses recently finished in my research group about the efficacy of therapies in depression, such as electroconvulsive therapy or expressive writing.
