Abstract
In this assignment, there is a need to write a literature review on a topic of clinical neuroscience research area. Though, it is necessary to select a topic in the neuroscience research area on which the Literature Review must be written in an effective manner. Therefore, the topic selected in the neuroscience research area is DEMENTIA. A detailed literature review will cover all the aspects of the Dementia. In conclusion nurses are required to devise a comprehensive programme which addresses the need of AD clients, care givers and families. Patient centred care should be the main goal for every health care professionals. Mental health nurses should be able to have knowledge and skills to deal with stressful situations and to improve the quality of care provided to clients. Inter-professional working can enhance nurses with adaptation of roles, skill, knowledge and responsibilities to adjust to those of other groups or agencies. Caring for someone with AD can be demanding for both caregivers and the nurses. The nurses are supposed to form a good collaborative working relationship with the caregiver through empowerment. Dementia represents a major health care challenge of the new millennium. Because of the growth of the aging population, even idealized estimates of successful prevention do not project a reduction in prevalence over the next 50 years. While basic scientists are developing targeted intervention, it is important to face the reality of this epidemic with clinical awareness, diagnostic insight, and strategies for the delivery of care needed to address the breadth of symptoms associated with this disease. Use of currently available pharmacologic agents is evidence of progress but remains inadequate. Non-pharmaceutical treatments are potentially powerful approaches to alleviate behavioural symptoms and assist in the daily care of the demented patient. Many methods serve to instruct and educate the caregivers, thus decreasing the burdens faced by these individuals. This is critical because the impact on caregivers is likely to be magnified as those younger and healthier become a progressively smaller portion of the population. While it is difficult to quantify any method as superior to another, interventions may be used according to the symptom presenting and illness stage. Best management of this disease should include psychotherapeutic techniques, environmental modification and prudent use of pharmacology. Therefore, all the issues and aspects related to research literature on dementia have been discussed in detail.
