Abstract :

The informatization and automation of long-term care (LTC) facilities have not been popular. The development of a â??LTC management platformâ? can improve the management performance of facilities and enable nurses to save more time on transcription records and completing assessment forms, thus, providing more time to devote themselves to the profession of nursing care. The purpose of this study was to preliminarily investigate the â??current status of information introduction, and LTC facility nurseâ??s satisfaction with it,â? â??focuses on the expansion of an information introduction system, as perceived by LTC facility caregivers,â? â??obstacles encountered in promotion of informatization of LTC facilities,â? and â??feasibility of the application of e-learning to educational training of LTC facilities.â? This study enrolled LTC facility nurses, using the information introduction system of Rui You Information Systems, as the research participants. Sixty-eight nurses completed the interviews. Results showed that the demand for the application of LTC information system is very high, it can help institution to enhance the quality of residents care, reduce costs, precious manpower and time of looking for data and related information. However, the researchers also found that nurses expressed that they were not familiar with the operation on LTC information system. In addition, the content of the form and the actual occurrence of the clinical situation was different. It is needed to expand the form content. It is intended that this study can help understand the current status use of the LTC information system of nurses, as well as their satisfaction and needs for modifications, as reference for the subsequent development and modification of an information system, in order to achieve the objective of conforming to nursing practices and increasing system accessibility. Thus, rendering the system the biggest, most comprehensible, and widely used helper of nursing personnel, and provide the results as reference for effectiveness evaluation of LTC facilities.

Hung-Ru Lin, has completed her PhD from University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is a professor and Dean of Academic Affairs at National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences in Taiwan. Ching-Yuan Huang, he is the CSO at RUI-YOU Information Co., Ltd., in Taiwan.
