|Bell's palsy or idiopathic facial paralysis (IFP) is the most common acute unilateral lower motor neuron paralysis of the facial nerve with worldwide incidence of IFP is 11-40 per 100,000 people annually. Facial paralysis of long term effect, permanent nature or even short term effect can be devastating for patient and affect the prosthetic outcome. Modern society's emphasis on appearance and physical beauty contributes to this problem and often, leads to isolation of patients embarrassed by their appearance. This presentation will explain the prosthodontic management of an edentulous jaw in patient with Bell's palsy by different modification to the removable prosthesis. These modifications lead to elevate the check musculature, vestibule and lips there by improving the fullness and support to the face on the affected side.|
Meisan Ali Bukhari has completed her Bachelor of Dental Medicine and Surgery in 2000 from King Abdul-Aziz University and Post-graduate study of Saudi Board of Prosthodontics from Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. She is the Head of Dental Laboratory of Jeddah Specialty Dental Center-MOH and the Head Supervisor of training program for intern doctors in Prosthodontics Department. She is a certified Professional Trainer by MOE, S.A from 2014. She has participated as a speaker and organized many training courses.
