Abstract :

Present paper communicates potentially important medicinal plants with reference to their taxonomy, threats if any, precise locations, flowering and fruiting period, present status in the field, traditional uses and doses. Different parts of plant species are used as traditional medicines in the form of crude drugs by variety of doses to cure different ailments and diseases. These species are collected and studied from Khandesh region of the state of Maharashtra and Sahyadri ranges of Western Ghats in India and of them, some species are conserved in our botanical garden for research, multiplication and transfer to other botanical gardens. For example Curcuma inodora, Dioscorea peltata, Sterculia urens, Ceropegia sahyadrica, C. bulbosa, C. hirsuta, C. lawii, Vigna khandalensis, Gloriosa superba, Rawolfia tetraphylla, Pterocapus marsupium, Radermachera xylocarpa, Entada pusaetha, Zingiber devakarianum, Michelia champaca, Costus picta, Costus speciosus, Bauhinia vahlii, Bauhinia tomentosa, Curculigo orchioides, Eulophia ochracea, Gymnema sylvestre, Enicostemma axillare, Caralluma adscendens var. fimbriata, Cissus quadrangularis, Commiphora wightii, Amorphophallus bulbifer, Tylophora indica, Abrus precatorius, Plumbago zeylanica, Neuracanthus sphaerostachys, Hemidesmus indicus, Euphorbia hirta, Pueraria tuberosa, Asparagus racemosus, Abrus precatorius, Erythrina suberosa, Tinospora cordifolia, Holarrhena pubescens, Alangium salvifolium, Psoralia corylifolia, Centella asiatica, Woodfordia fruticosa, Datura metel, Gmelina arborea, Sphaeranthus indicus, Randia dumetorum, Vitex negundo, Butea monosperma, Uraria picta, Erythrina variegata, Desmodium oojeinensis, Dendrophthoe falcata, Leonotis nepetaefolia, Plectranthus barbatus, Acaccia nilotica, Albizia lebbeck, Mimosa pudica, Acacia leurophloea, Acacia pennata, Thepesia lampas, Boerhavia diffusa, Portulaca oleracea, Argemone mexicana, Datura metal, Vitex negundo, Holoptelea integrifalia.

Biography :

K Shirsagar Sanjay Ragho has completed his PhD in 1999 in Floristics and worked as Ecologist in University of Delhi, India. He has 15 years of teaching experience and 10 years of research experience in medicinal plants, flora, ethnobotany, ethnomedicine, biodiversity, ex situ conservation, herbal garden, botanical garden and herbarium. He is a Coordinator of PG Diploma in conservation of medicinal, endemic and endangered plants and has 28 research papers in national journals, 11 research papers in international journals and two books.
