Abstract:

Background: Degree centrality is widely used in social network analysis to show the most important verticals within the graph. We used the concept in the healthcare workers?? social network to analyze the most influential persons who influence the vaccination of the health staff. Method: We selected 8 primary health care units and 10 clinical departments from 2 hospitals in Qingdao, China and collected date by the questionnaires survey and interview. UCINET 6 software was applied to weight networks, in degree centrality as well as descriptive statistic and one-way ANOVA to find the key personnel. Result: 316 healthcare workers from 12 health care units finally entered the study. The data analysis revealed that gender has no influence with centrality while the age, degree of education, serving period and the professional position have significant influence (p<0.05). The key persons had big influence on influenza vaccination, 48% healthcare workers thought the influence was strong, 30.6% was medium and 21.4% was weak. Conclusion: The key person in the healthcare workers group has such characters as older, higher degree of education, longer serving period and higher professional position. The key person had big influence on influenza vaccination among healthcare workers and vaccination strategy focusing on them could improve the vaccination coverage.
