The use of attachment MK1 on removable dentures on implants

Abstract:

Background & Aim: Oral rehabilitation using removable denture has been a very common clinical treatment, although it may be seen a great technical and scientific increasing of restorative dentistry. When considering rehabilitation using the Branemark Protocol, it is important to note some limitations. The difficult hygiene, the retention of food under the disease and sometimes the difficulty in achieving adequate esthetics are factors that can interfere in the self-esteem of the edentulous patient. Considering the use of removable dentures, attachments are in evidence and MK1 system represents a precision locked attachment with rigid working and it may be used over teeth, roots and implants. The purpose of this presentation is to show an excellent alternative increasing the comfort and the advantages of using a protocol. Methodology: The MK1 system can be used together fixing milled bars over implants, offering retention for dentures in the edentulous patients, turning a Branemark protocol on a removable denture. The procedures are almost the same considering the procedures of a denture. The dentist must know how the attachment MK1 works and basically know how to proceed when working on a Branemark protocol. We then consider the Branemark protocol as a removable denture and all the advantages it brings; the hygiene, the compensation of the bone resorption, due to the loss of the teeth, mainly in the maxilla, the labial support, the esthetic and the phonetics. Findings: All patients submitted to the use of the denture system with MK1 were considerably satisfied. After some time of use we notice a lower formation of bacterial plaque and even irritation in the peripheral region of the implants. Conclusion: Considering all the clinical and aesthetic aspects, I can assert that the indication of the removable denture system with MK1 supersedes the traditional Branemark protocols with advantages to the patient.
