Abstract
Rice crop is climatically the most adaptable cereal. Management of rice crop is difficult as It is grown over a large spatial domain and wide range of landscape types. Furthermore, the projected changes in climatic conditions will further complicate the management of rice crop as the present crop management practices may not be relevant in the future climatic conditions. Forecasting future climate and planning for location specific management practices in light of changed climate is one of the approach to raise rice yields in varied rice growing environments. With this background, ClimGen climate model has been chosen to validate with climate data of local field conditions. ClimGen is a stochastic weather generator that generates daily precipitation, minimum and maximum temperature, solar radiation, humidity and wind speed data series with similar statistics to that of the historical weather data. This model was validated by using long term weather data of DRR farm, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad and results were compared with observed values. Annual and seasonal rainfall series showed an average increase of 5.25% and 8.65% respectively for DRR farm. It is observed from the predicted values for 2050 that there is increase in maximum temperature (2.450C) and decrease in minimum temperature (3.140C). ClimGen model showed good performance with DRR farm data and further validated with other rice growing centers data under different agro climatic regions.
