Abstract Share this page

general quality indicators for general medicine, applicable for all countries and healthcare systems. It then remain to be seen whether the instution of Emergency medicine as separate medical speciality is the way to go to achive the forementioned goals. this may be the case for some countries in Europe, but not for others, depending on many factors.Like for intensive care medicine, the multi-disciplinary input threatens to be lost by the institution of a separate speciality. We do agree with the authors of the correspondence: Let us not forget the history of medicine. Too widespread specialization in medicine has created barriers in the past, which has not served well for the quality of care for our patients. However mutual stimulation, mutual respect, communication and cooperation are characteristics which we do have!
