Abstract A G-quadruplex-selective luminescent iridium(III) switch-on probe has been developed for the detection of cysteine (Cys) in aqueous solution. The system is highly sensitive and selective towards Cys with a tunable range of detection. The detection of glutathione (GSH) is also examined.
