Abstract No. 640. Among the malaria endemic tropical zones is the Indian sub-continent , within it is the province of Orissa wherein the district of Koraput is well known for formidable drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum ( Pf ) , severe malaria ( SM ) , cerebral malaria ( CM ) & complicating cases are numerous . While intense efforts continue in various labs. making very valuable contributions ; malaria ( Mlr ) continues to afflict citizens in millions in the developing nations , causing immense fiscal burden & social problems . Debilitating Mlr in over populous developing nations has become a disease of the home . A home level therapy was attempted between 1994-96 in form of a mixed herbo-chem approach , the exercise being termed Orissa Malaria Research Indigenous Attempt (OMARIA) . Single OMARIA adult dose constitutes 1875mg of dried dermis powder of immature P. granatum ( PGD-if ) + 280mg of dried powder of N. arbortritis leafs ( Nat ) + 375mg of amorphous NaCl + 500 mg 4-Acetamidophenol ( 4-A ), 6 dose , 8 hourly for 2 days . From 1997 OMARIA has been in regular use at a Indian Red Cross Society's Ayurveda charitable dispensary . > 500 case records covering a wide spectrum of demographic & clinical status as has been created between 1998 - Feb.1993 is relied upon . No side effects , nil contra , nil failure . Clearance with no relapse in known resistant cases who used to contact Pf infection between 4 - 6 times / yr even after full & complete Mefloquine/Primaquine therapy on all previous occasions . Chronic and resistant Plasmodium vivax ( Pv ) clears . A daily mono dose of 1gm of PGD-if indicates prophylaxis , prevents infection to the native even if he regularly sleeps without mosquito net in core endemic zone ; on continuous intake for 8 weeks prophylaxis projection extends into months. PGD-if yields tannin . Tannin and its hydrolyzed moieties become apparent for the first time in clearing malariasis and as prophylactic ; NaCl as restorative ; jointly as process scavenger ; 4-A as switch which jointly with carboxylic & phenolic OH gr. derivatives + NaCl down regulates innate inflammation process ; Nat is introduced as schizontosidal , is marked by precipitous remission of paroxysm . Copious data as generated to be presented in tabulated form in subsequent communication . OMARIA can be made at home , prima facie is a viable home remedy , relevant in developing nations . Being a mixed composition of medicinal herb and chemicals it is termed as herbo-chem . OMARIA is apparently able to clear parasytemia and thwart innate host response in a apparently matched systemic manner . It may be worthwhile to subject the matter into the glare of experts world wide . Empirical basis is articulated
