Abstract For individuals who have schizophrenia, adherence to medication is often poor, and stopping medication often has serious consequences. This article provides an update on recent literature regarding the frequency, clinical and social impact, and clinical correlates of nonadherence to antipsychotic medication in schizophrenia. The authors then review published trials of interventions to improve adherence in schizophrenia.
