Abstract A case of aspiration of activated charcoal and gastric contents is reported. The patient developed immediate airway obstruction treated by endotracheal intubation and suctioning. Protracted respiratory insufficiency characterized by severe bronchospasm developed after airway obstruction was alleviated.
