Abstract Information technology (IT) has radically changed the way that many people work and think. This audit was designed to evaluate the IT skills and training needs of different professional groups. Most clerical staff but only about 33\% of medical and nursing staff were able to use the current patient information system. 72\% of the staff were interested in further training in information technology skills. The local college agreed to come to the hospital to run the CLAIT (Computer Literacy and Information Technology) course on our premises.
