Abstract Cold storage allows the effective utilization of organs retrieved for transplantation. However, prolonged cold ischemia contributes to organ damage and increases patients' morbidity and mortality and health care cost. Using recent data from the United Network for Organ Sharing, this paper examines the outcomes of live donor and deceased donor kidney transplants in relation to cold ischemia time.
