Abstract A motion sickness plaster releasing a powerful antisialogogic agent, scopolamine, was tested in a double blind clinical trial for its effect on salivary parameters in 14 healthy young men. The agent caused a decline in salivary flow rates, which was most pronounced during unstimulated conditions. Salivary pH and buffer capacity were also reduced. Salivary levels of Streptococcus mutans and lactobacilli showed a tendency to increase during 2 days on the antisialogogic agent, but the effect on S. mutans levels was not statistically significant.
