Abstract A new methodology for the surface-reconstitution of apo-flavoenzymes on a relay unit (pyrroloquinoline quinone, PQQ) functionalized with a boronic acid ligand as a linker to native FAD was developed. The reconstitution of apo-glucose oxidase (apo-GOx) on the PQQ-FAD monolayer yields an electrically contacted enzyme-electrode.
