Abstract During the last decades there has been an important increase in the incidence of fungal infections. These infections are common in the setting of Intensive Care Units (ICU), where the prevalence of high-risk patients is important. In this review we discuss the incidence of candidemia in ICUs, as well as the mortality and economic impact. The participation of non-Candida albicans Candida species in the etiology of these infections is currently increasing.
