Abstract Successful management of acute post-operative pain in the post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) is vitally important. A multimodal approach incorporating analgesics with varying sites of action is recommended. Anti-inflammatory drugs are effective analgesics in the treatment of mild to moderate acute pain (Bandolier Oxford league table of analgesic efficacy 2007). The purpose of this article is to consider the evidence for the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for acute postoperative pain.
