Abstract Individuals with cognitive impairment, their family members, and their care providers have all identified "quality of life" as a central goal in the treatment of dementia. In this article, we identify factors that influence quality of life for individuals with cognitive impairment, review evidence-based psychosocial interventions that improve quality of life for community-residing individuals with dementia, and describe innovative ongoing randomized clinical trials designed to improve or maintain quality of life for individuals with mild to moderate memory problems.
