Abstract Share this page

As for the Japanese version Sense of Coherence (SOC) scale and especially the simple 13- item version (SOC-13), operating frequency is increasing in recent years . However, the factor validity of SOC scale Japanese version has not been examined yet . Although the SOC scale has taken the seven-point scale, it is said that a seven-point scale has a possibility that individual difference may arise in distribution of evaluation compared with a five-point scale , and the measurement by the five-point scale is frequent in Japan. Then, this research aimed at carrying out examination of the reliability and factor validity of the five-point SOC-13 scale Japanese version . Two samples were used in this research. The 1st sample was targeted for 1800, 20 or older-year men and women who did two step random sampling of stratification from the Japan whole region . The number of effective recoveries was 1095 votes (485 males, 610 females, valid response rates of 60.8%). The 2nd sample is targeted for 600, 55 to 74 years old, men and women who did random sampling of stratification from the A divisions of Tokyo. The number of effective recoveries was 383 votes (175 males, 208 females, valid response rates of 63.8%). When examination of the reliability of five-point SOC-13 scale and factor-validity was performed, in the item 4, it turned out that I-T correlation is low . In the second-order three factor model, the good degree of model-fit was obtained in the error covariance correction model which sets up the error covariance of an item 2 and an item 3, and the two-item deletion model which deleted the item 4 and item 2 which has a problem about content validity . It is necessary to correct a wording etc. about an item 2 and an item 4.
